Mrs. Dixie Ann Polk

Mrs. Dixie Ann Polk was born to Mr. Bobby Joe and Mrs. Willie Mary Smith on September 24, 1949. She was blessed to have a second set of parents, Mr. Raymond and Mrs. Lottie Mae Rogers, who loved her dearly. Mrs. Dixie departed this life on January 11, 2023. Mrs. Dixie attended public school in the Murry City area. Her work history includes many years at Popeyes, numerous years of personal services for Ms. Frances Tomlin Tigrett, along with her first husband, Napoleon Merriweather Sr., and as an assistant cafeteria manager within the Jackson Madison County School System (JMCSS). She retired from JMCSS. Mrs. Dixie was definitely a soldier for God. She was never ceasing to serve in all capacities. She showed herself friendly to everyone that crossed her path. She started her Christian journey at Saint James Baptist church. She continued her Christian walk as a member of Rock Temple Church of God in Christ (COGIC) and then Unity Temple COGIC, where she was under Superintendent Eddie Whitelaw for about 20 years. After leaving Rock Temple, she transferred to Holy Template COGIC, Pinson, Tn. Mrs. Dixie finally accepted her calling into the ministry and was licensed to preach the Gospel alongside her loving pastor, Elder Joseph Louis Woodson of Milan, Tn. She served as Elder Woodson’s Assistant Pastor and remained a faithful member of Holy Template for many years until she transitioned to be with our God. Before her homegoing, several close loved ones went before her, including Bobby Joe Smith, Willie Mary Smith, Raymond Joe Smith, Willie Mary Smith, Raymond Rodgers, Lottie Mae Rogers, her first husband, Napoleon Merriweather, Sr, and lastly, Deacon Oscar Polk, “Charlie Brown,” who she remained married to until his death. Reverend Dixie Ann Polk leaves to cherish a large blended family, including her oldest sister, Reverend Wanda Taylor, three biological children, and eleven stepchildren. Her children include Jerria (George) Carroll, Sharon (Lawrence) Davis, Ernell (Pam) Smith, Napoleon (Christine) Merriweather, Jr., Nettie (Melvin) Cromer, Robert (Sherri) Merriweather, Lyda (David) Robinson, Sandra Blaylock, Nathaniel Merriweather, Kimball (Monica) Merriweather, and Ernest (Yolnie) Merriweather. She also leaves three brothers-in-love: Willie Lee Polk, Charles Wood, and Rocky White, and one sister-in-love, Margie Cole. Her grand and great-grandchildren include Jeffrey Lane, Jr., Jasmine Lane, Sharon: Kayla McKinnie, Morgan Davis, Nelson Smith, Sarai Smith, Dominique Wilson, Violet Lane (Joy), Nyomi McKinnie, A’miracle, A’praise, Marco, Zane, Charlotte Merriweather, Nelson Smith, Sarai Smith, Dominique Wilson, Violet Lane, Nyomi McKinnie, A’miracle, A’praise, Marco, and Zane, Tamara Merriweather, Keshia Merriweather, Davron Fleming, Tarsha Crimes, Jemeca Pointer, Brian Merriweather, Myesha Pirtle, Malik Pirtle, Simone Hobson, Asia Hobson, Kendra Carter, Dwight Merriweather, Krista Leigh, Aundre Wilson Sr, Britiany Merriweather, Briona Madison, and Michelle Midy. One son, Bobby Merriweather, and one son-in-law, Elvis Blaylock, preceded her in death. She also leaves behind four sweet nieces, Nina Brady, Vicky Golden, Lola Beard, and Chana Burris, and three wonderful nephews, Vinson Burris, Kentry Burris, and Dana Burris. Additionally, she leaves behind special friends, a precious Dear Mrs. Margaret David, and Ylonda Wilson.
