Ms. Betty Ann Ingram

Betty Ann Ingram, formally Walker, was born to Minnie L. Brown and B.D. Walker on March 9, 1957, in Maury City, Tennessee. She departed this life here on earth on Wednesday, January 29, 2025. She died surrounded by the love of friends and family. She devoted her life to Christ as a young woman under the leadership of the late Elder Julius DeBerry at Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Humboldt, TN. Many people don’t know this, but prior to her disability, she was a business owner in the trucking industry. She was also exceptionally creative - sewing her own clothing, making beautiful floral arrangements and crafts, as well as baking some of the most delicious treats this side of the Mississippi. She didn’t let her disability hinder what she could do, and she never made excuses. She was a problem solver, a quick thinker. Although she was a quadriplegic for over 30 years, she didn’t let that weaken her faith or stop her from being the best mom she could be. She loved her children deeply and made sure they were well taken care of even though she was confined to a bed. She was a very truthful person and was fastened on being honest and direct. She was an advocate for being there for others and known for her giving spirit and willingness to always lend a helping hand. With the help of her nursing aid(s), Betty continued creating beautiful gift baskets for the people she loved. She was a fighter, determined, and a little stubborn. She was a dependable neighbor that would open her home to various family members and friends and never once expected any type of service in return. She smiled through the pain for so many years because she was strong. She personified resilience showing the people around her that just because you were dealt a disappointing hand in life doesn’t mean you must live in devastation. She did not allow her disability to handicap her mind or her purpose in life, to serve others. She was preceded in death by her sister, Willie Mae Jelks; brother, Robert Earl Hendrix; and son, Quincy Jelks. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her daughter, Olivia (Coleman) Smith; granddaughter, Amelia Jelks; brother, Clyde Midgett; sister, Gloria Jean Jelks; and best friends Peggy Johnson and Jean Love, as well as a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
