Ms. Alice Lucille Jones

Alice Lucille Jones was born on May 7, 1952 in Pinson, Tennessee, to the late Jack and Abbie Jones. She completed this life on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at the Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and entered into eternal rest. At an early age, Alice accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at the Hurt's Chapel C.M.E. Church in Jackson, Tennessee. Alice attended Tri-Community Elementary School; she then attended East High School for two years and graduated from Merry High School in the class of 1970. She also attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee, graduated with a bachelor's and master's degree. Alice studied, worked hard, and was a good student. She was a very warm, caring and trustworthy person which resulted in her having lifetime friends. Alice taught family and consumer education at Millington High School in the Memphis City Schools for 30 - years. She impacted lots of children in various capacities such as instructing and supervising them in preparing food for the teachers' food bar, supervising football games and counseling students about various concerns in life. Alice had a very special relationship with her nieces and nephews. They told her that they were her favorite niece and nephew, and it was very clear to all that she was their favorite aunt. Alice was also very involved in working with the NAACP in Memphis in various capacities, particularly voter registration and "get out the vote" campaigns. The family always looked forward to having her give is updates at family reunions and other gatherings. Alice was also one of the lead block watch facilitators in her community in Memphis, and residents have expressed a deep appreciation for her. Alice leaves to cherish her memories four sisters: Pearlie Matthews-Fields of Jackson, TN, Laura Turner of Chicago, IL, Annie K. Jones of Milwaukee, WI and Judy (Jay B.) Mercer of Nashville, TN, three brothers: Joe (Lotus) Jones of Forest Hills, N.Y., Clifford Jones, Sr. of Memphis, TN, and Ed "Too Tall" Jones of Farmers Branch, TX, two uncles: Charles (Luster Mae) Lancaster of South Bend, IN and Wilbon (Diane) Lancaster of Milwaukee, WI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
