Mrs. Shirley Jean Pewitte Grimes

January 14, 1954 - May 8, 2022

Sister Shirley Jean Pewitte Grimes, was born to the late John Wesley Pewitte and Claudine Pewitte on January 14, 1954. She slept on into glory in the wea hours on Sunday, May 8, 2022. She was a devoted Christian. She professed her love for Jesus at a young age and join Bethlehem No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church. But would later in life return to her mother Claudine’s home Church, London Branch Missionary Baptist Church in Haywood County, Tennessee. She attended public schools at Denmark Elementary and West High School of Denmark, Tennessee. She was employed by the George Anna Motel, Casey Jones Motel and she worked as a cafeteria worker at Lane College. After her retirement she moved to Edmond, Oklahoma to be close to her daughters where she resided until her death. She loved to dance, have fun, laugh, joke and be the life of all of the family gatherings. She would call and text home on a daily basis. She would give all that she had for her family. She loved her family. She got married at a young age to her childhood sweetheart John Henry Forest, and to this union three children were born. She was later married to Lewis Grimes. She was preceded in death by her son: Willie Raymond Pewitte; her siblings: Pearlie “Easie” Pewitte Clark, Cora E. Ellison, John Lee Pewitte, Raymond Pewitte, Willie T. Pewitte, Ernest “ Tonk” Cleve Pewitte, James “Boball” Pewitte and Charles Pewitte. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters: Moniquia Bridgers and Mona Lisa Alexander both of Edmond, Oklahoma; three sisters: Sarah (Curtis) Goyer, Janice (Elvis) Phelps both of Jackson, Tennessee; and Nellie (Edward) Guyton of Denmark, Tennessee; brother: Alexander Vantreese of Chicago, Illinois; two sisters-in-law: Lavern Pewitte of Denmark, Tennessee and Bonita Pewitte of Jackson, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren: Keshia (Sean) Tate, Deaquann Forrest, Kel’mia (Erin) Tate Hackney, Josh (Sha’Nequa) Hammond, Takisha (Tyree) Wells, Felicia (Tiffany) Herring, Janet Herring, Shan Tavia Singleton, Rolonda D. Hill, Sarah Forrest, Dilen Forrest Pewitte, Aniqueia Garvin; great-grandchildren: Kayden, Karter, Kolten, Keyshan Mixon Tate, Noah Aldridge Forrest, Avianna Forrest, Joshaun, Drayden, June Hammonds, Charles Khoilan, Ka’yun, Ka’ori, Nicko, Na’Rigue Herring and host of other relatives and friends.
