Mr. Richard Wardell "Mac" McGee

June 11, 1942 - May 8, 2017

Richard "Mac" McGee was born on June 11, 1942 in Jackson Madison County, Tennessee where he was born to James A. McGee, Sr. and Mrs. Radie Womack McGee. On Monday May 8, 2017, God saw fit to call Mr. Richard Wardell McGee to a place of rest. Richard "Mac" McGee was brought up in the admiration of the Lord at Blairs Chapel C.M.E church in Denmark, Tennessee where he received Christ at an early age. While in Virginia Beach, Virginia, he attended Village Church. He was a graduate of West High School in Denmark, Tennessee, where he also was a standout basketball star. Richard in years to come would enlist into the United States Navy, where he also shined as a member of the Navy National Basketball team which traveled the globe playing in many exhibitions. Shortly after high school, Richard "Mac" McGee married Shirley Jean Caldwell and to this union one child was born Sandra. He retired after 24 years of service as a Chief Warrant Officer for the U.S. Navy. Years later while in the Navy, Richard met a young lady by the name of Alice Patricia Carroll whom he married and shared 51 years of life. Trica as he affectionately referred to her, preceded him in death on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. "Mac" had a passion for feeding the masses in so much as he became a famous caterer, the owner of Mac Country Cooking and Catering Consultants. He catered numerous wedding, family functions, and special event using his signature dishes: Roast Beef and rice, lomein, and yes Mac Famous Bar-B-Cue sauce. Richard "Mac" McGee was preceded in death by his parents, James A. McGee, Sr. and Mrs. Radie McGee; one brother, Author A. McGee; three sisters, Inez McGee, Hattie "Sweetie" McGee and Willean McGee. He was also preceded by Shirley "Peaches" McGee, and the late Alice P. McGee. Richard "Mac" McGee leaves to cherish his celebrations of life 3 daughters, Sandra (Marvin) Mays; Nashville, TN Angelique (Curley) Lewis; Norfolk, Virginia, Dr. Tamara (Dontrell) Cornick-Leonard of Virginia Beach, VA; six grandchildren: four grandsons, Sadarius (Karen) McGee, Broderick (Connie) McGee, Avonte Lewis and Dontrell Leonard, Jr.; two granddaughters, Shirlita C. McGee and Angelique (Dequarius) Lewis; eight great grandchildren, Morghan McGee, Nadia McGee, MyKayla Gray, Zyquiere McGee, Myah Gray, Sadarius McGee Jr., A'Jayla Perry and Kaysen Lewis; eight sisters, Clotee McGee, Liz Cleveland, Vivian McGee, Angela (Otis) Lewis, Augusta M. Jones, Gerelene McGee Owens, Earlene McGee, and Ozzie M. Duffala; five brothers, James A. McGee Jr., Rev. Robert L. McGee, Wilbert McGee, Franklin R. McGee and James L. McGee. Mac will be remembered and missed by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
