Mr. John R. Stewart Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

John Ruth Stewart peacefully transitioned to his home at rest on Friday morning on September 25, 2015., at Maplewood Healthcare in Jackson, Tennessee. John was born on October 10, 1919 in Montezuma, Tennessee, the son of the late John Frank Stewart and Jennie Ann Thomas Stewart. John accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age at the North Henderson Church Of Christ. On December 22, 1940, he united in marriage to the late Jennie Mae Croom. They were married for 69 years. To this union they were blessed with five children. John served in the United States Army an served his country in World War II. As a member of the 77th Post Artillery Protecting The Island In The South Pacific from 1941-1945. After his military service, John worked as a farmer, a carpenter with Johnson Construction Company and The Chester County Highway Department. He was a life time member of The Disabled America Veterans and a life time member of the Montezuma Community Center. At Maplewood he was selected Resident of the month of May 2011 and in 2015 he was selected Who's Who in Tennessee Long Term Care Honorees. John was preceded in death by his parents; Jennie and John Frank Stewart, a sister and brother early in their childhood, two sisters: Allene Davis and Mary Stewart; a loving and devoted wife the late Jennie Mae Stewart and one daughter: Maggie Stewart Golden. He is survived by two daughters; Annie Stewart and Carrie Stewart both of Henderson, Tennessee; two sons: John H. Stewart of Henderson, Tennessee and Paul Stewart of Jackson, Tennessee; a son-in-law James Golden of Jackson, Tennessee; one grandchildren: Romeka Douglas of Jackson, Tennessee, two grandchildren: Taniya Prather and Micheal Douglas, Jr., sister-in-law; Alice Askins of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Gertrude Croom, Olivia Croom, Linda Croom all of Henderson, Tennessee and Ersel Croom of Jackson, Tennessee; brother-in-laws: Kenneth (Bonita) Croom and Cecil (Reba) Croom both of Henderson, Tennessee. A number of nieces, nephews, cousins , other relatives and friends.
