Mr. Glynn S. White

June 14, 1928 - January 7, 2018

Glynn Sargent White was born on June 14, 1928 in Alton, Illinois to Gaines Carr and Louise Day Greer. He departed this life on January 7, 2018 at Mission Convalescent Home. Glynn accepted Christ at an early age at Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church, where he was an active lifetime member. He attended Madison County Schools and graduated from Denmark High School. On April 30, 1947, he was united in holy matrimony to Louise Brown, to this union, four lovely daughters were born. He was an active member of the Steward Board, Choir, Superintendent of Sunday School, and the Chairperson of the Annual Men’s Day programs for many years. Glynn was also very active in the community, these activities include: 2nd Vice President of the NAACP, where he served two terms, a member of the West Madison County Senior Citizens Center, where he served as a member of the governing board for two consecutive terms. He was a member of the West Madison Neighborhood Watch Organization. He was also very instrumental in integrating the Madison County School System. The integration process resulted in his children becoming the first to desegregate schools in Madison County. He was a lifetime warrior for justice and equality for the voiceless and underrepresented. Glynn White was a civil rights icon. His career path began as a farmer and ended as an employee of the Quaker Oats Company for over 20 years. He was instrumental in the hiring of many African Americans from the Jackson- Madison County community. His faithful wife, Louise Brown White, preceded him in death in 2011. He leaves to cherish his memories, four lovely daughters, Elaine White (Larry) Holmes of Denmark, TN, Glynda White of Las Vegas, NV, Beverly White (Robert) Smith of Birmingham, AL and Raholanda (Rho) White of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Cameron L. (LaKeeka) Burrell, Sr., of San Antonio, TX, Robert Smith II of Bessemer, AL, and Kirsten Smith of Birmingham, AL; one great- grandchild, Cameron Lamarr Burrell, Jr.; one sibling, Warlene Reed of St. Charles, MO; three nieces, Angela Bachelor of St. Charles, MO, Lajuana ( Stan) Counts of Kansas City, MO, Toni Collins ( Ernest) Barringer of Las Vegas, NV; four nephews, Dr. Edwin Bachelor of Madison, WI, Byron Reed of Denver, CD, Robert Forest “June Bug” of Jackson, TN and Chris Merriweather of Las Vegas, NV; a dear lifelong friend, Frank Louis Walker of Jackson, TN; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Treadwell of Las Vegas, NV; one brother-in-law, Ethelwood (Marchelle) Currie of Austin, TX and a host of other relatives and friends.
