Mrs. Gertie Driver Brown

December 15, 1915 - September 18, 2020

Gertie Driver Brown was born December 15, 1915 in Gold Dust, TN. She was the only child born to the late McKinley Driver and Pearl Thompkins. She departed this life on September 18, 2020. She was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was a proud member of Mother Liberty Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Jackson, TN. Where she served on numerous boards. Her hobbies included but not limited to arts and crafts, decorating, floral arrangements, cook, fishing, traveling, and architectural design. She was an avid pet lover. She graduated from Bruce High School in Dyersburg, TN. Prior to attending College, she studied Cosmetology in Memphis, TN. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Education from Lane College, Jackson, TN and received her master’s degree in Special Education from Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN. She taught for a total of thirty-six years (Newbern, Alamo, TN and Gary, IN), prior to retiring in 1975. She was a proud Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Indiana Teachers Retirement Association. She met the love of her life and married the late Mr. Eugene Douglas Brown on August 28, 1934. They were married for sixty-five years. She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons Johnny Eugene Brown and Gregory Douglas Brown (Ophelia), seven grandchildren Roderick D. Henderson (Kiondra), Devin E. Brown, Taniqua D. Brown, Brittney N. Wynder (Terrence), Gregory D. Brown, II (Tamara), Gabrielle A. Brown and Octavia M. Brown; twenty-three great-grandchildren, cousin Yvonne Scott (Johnnie) and a host of other family and friend.
