October 18, 1958 - April 5, 2017
Cassandra Jeanne Sharp heeded God’s call, and peacefully crossed over to be with Him on the morning of April 5, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare (formerly Regional Hospital) in Jackson, Tennessee. She was born October 18, 1959 in Jackson, Tennessee to Gene and Murinell Huntspon. Cassandra was baptized and grew up in Salem Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was active in the Missionary Society, the Mass Choir and on the finance committee. In her early years, she attended Washington-Douglass and Parkway Middle Schools. She earned her high school diploma from Jackson Central-Merry High School in 1975. After graduating high school, Cassandra enrolled and attended Lane College, later decided that she would go to business school in Detroit, Michigan. There she attended computer technology school and became a keypunch operator. Later in life, she returned to Lane College where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice in 2011. Sandy, as she was affectionately known, married William Gerald (Jere) Sharp. To their union, two children were born. She was an amazingly loving mother to their children, Janell and Jeremy and loved her stepson, Chris Barksdale as she did her own. Sandy enjoyed attending every single game, play or concert that in which her children participated. Cassandra had a smile that could light up the room. Always the life of the party, she enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. Sandy was always a dedicated worker and loved her job as manager of the family’s shop, Nell Huntspon Flower Box. She worked there for more than 30 years, and her presence was truly missed by loyal customers when her health began to fail. Sandy was a strong person who fought her illness with a tenacity that is unequaled. She lived life after diagnosis as well and long as God allowed. She was aided in her recovery by her family and by family friends such as the Scotts who was such a help and inspiration. We will be forever grateful for all he did. Cassandra was preceded in death by her father, Gene Huntspon; sister, Loritta Walker; uncle, James Day; and her husband of twenty-eight years, Jere Sharp. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Janell (Kellen) and Jeremy; stepson, Chris (Temicka) Barksdale; her mother, Murinell Huntspon; sister, E. Melissa (Titus) Pollard; seven grandchildren: Jordan, LaCrista, Dakota, Sianna, Brent, Kamden and Jace; an aunt, Camille Day-Jacox; her great aunt, Lillie Mae Jones; mother-in-law, Delores Pirtle; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; nephews Carlos (Quita) and Damien Walker and Quincey Pollard; and a host of cousins and numerous friends. She has three cousins who were more like siblings: Earnest, Treba and Greg. Sandy was blessed with surrogate mothers, Marie Hill and Mae Evelyn McCorry, who cared for her during her illness and a surrogate niece, Stephanie Amendola.
