Mr. Calvin Godwin
March 2, 1942 - January 8, 2019
Calvin Lewis Godwin, the son of the late Curtis Godwin and Geneva James Godwin, was born on March 2, 1942 in Jackson-Madison County, Tennessee, and he transitioned this life on January 8, 2019. Calvin was educated in the Jackson- Madison county school system and graduated from Merry High School in May, 1960. Shortly after graduation, Calvin moved to Waukegan, Illinois and went to work for the Johns Manville Company, where he worked until he retired. Along with his siblings, he accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Church of Christ under leadership of Brother Walter H. Vance. He was married to the late Lula Mae Lindsey Godwin. To this union no children were born. Calvin became a loving step father to her children, Ronald Alexander; Linda Alexander; and Beverly Alexander. Calvin was a quiet and caring young man, who loved visiting with and checking on the elderly people in the neighborhood and providing a helping hand whenever and wherever he could. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Geneva Godwin, his wife Lula, and a brother, Thermon Emory. He leaves to cherish his memory, two step daughters Linda and Beverly, one step son, Ronald; and a devoted a sister-in-law Sara Lindsey (Reggie) all of North Chicago, IL ; one brother Billy J. Godwin, (Linda )Jackson, TN; four sisters, Vernell Godwin Anderson (Gloston) Oakfield, TN; Sylvia J, Godwin Brown, Jackson, TN; Catherine Godwin Crawford (Odel ), Odessa, Texas; Jeanette Godwin Gibbs ( Shelton III), Terrell, Texas; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
