Mr. Billy Gene Shields

December 21, 1941 - October 14, 2016

Mr. Billy Shields was born December 21, 1941 in Henderson, Chester County, Tennessee, the son of the late Connor L. Shields, Sr. and Vera Marie Smith Shields. He departed this life on October 14, 2016 at his home at the age of seventy-four, after a short illness. Mr. Billy was baptized at an early age in Henderson, Tennessee. He was a very faithful member at North Henderson Church of Christ where he was always willing to serve. Many times he was the first to come to the communion table. He loved the church, entering the door many days when he didn’t feel well. His quiet, humble manner was admired by many. Even through his illness, when asked if he needed anything, his answer would always be, “I’m fine.” He was united in holy matrimony to Lurinda Williams. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. To their union one son was born, Billy Oscar. He also helped rear two nieces, Vera Marie Shields and Theresa Burton; and a brother, Conner Lee Shields. Upon returning to Tennessee, he worked at Kilgore in Toone, Tennessee, drove a school bus, worked at Bemis Mill, and retired from Southwest HRA as a driver. Mr. Shields was preceded in death by his wife Lurinda; two brothers, James Cleo and Willie Morris Shields; and a sister, Brenda Carson. He leaves to cherish his memory: a son, Billy Oscar of Milwaukee, WI; a daughter, Crystal of Milwaukee, WI; a brother Conner L. Shields and sister, Peggy Rowsey (Joe) of Milwaukee, WI; his nieces, Vera Marie Shields and Theresa Burton; seven aunts: Lorine Arnold, Catherine Cameron, Maxine Taylor, Marcie Sullivan, Dorothy Smith, Mary Lou Shields and Memphis Garland; an uncle, Howard Shields; and a host of great nieces and nephews; cousins, Eva Davis and Ethel Croom; other relatives and friends.
