Mr. William Howard Hill Sr.

Mr. William Howard Hill Sr. was born on October 7, 1933, in Tabor, Tennessee to the late Milton and Elversa Brice Hill. He was the second of four siblings and fondly called “Howard” by many of his paternal and maternal family members. He graduated in 1952 from Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee. He served in the United States Army from April 17,1953 to March 31,1955, Private First-Class Infantry. He also professed his faith and gave his life to Christ sharing with all who would come under his council, the importance of loving and serving the Lord by visiting the sick and meeting the needs of the most vulnerable. Eventually, he and Mollie married, packed their belongings and moved to Gary, Indiana. Together, with the help of God they raised four children. They were married for sixty-seven years. Mr. Hill was employed by the US Steel Gary works from April 1956 through July 1984 as a Crane Operator and was fondly called, “Zorro” by his coworkers. As a part-time Maintenance Worker, he worked at the License Bureau from June1971 through August 1973. He also worked at the General American Transportation Company in East Chicago, Indiana as a part-time Welder, from 1962 through 1963, as well as the Professional Maintenance Company from June 1973 to September 1974. He also coached The Youth Baseball Team where his sons proudly played. William and his family became faithful members of the New Revelation Baptist Church in Gary, Indiana. After residing there for many years with the children ‘grown and gone’, William and his beloved wife, Mollie, returned to Jackson, Tennessee where he became a member of the Home Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Willie Boyle, and First Lady Mrs. Boyle. He served on the Usher Board for many years. Alongside of his wife, Mollie, they were employees of the Stewart Daycare Center in Jackson, Tennessee. Mr.Hill enjoyed being the Transportation Driver while picking up the children and assuring the parents that their “precious cargo” would be just fine. He was loved and respected by everyone. He resided in McDonough, Georgia for a couple of years before the Lord called him home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Bell Stewart-Hill, siblings, Leroy Hill, Richard Hill, Grace Hill-Isabel, and son, William “Sugar” Howard Hill. He leaves a legacy of love to cherish his memory, his children, Judy Hill Garcia (Mr. Garcia) Snellville, Georgia, James “Thee" Hill (Diane) Fairburn, Georgia, Gwendolyn Hill Henderson (Charles) Nesbit, Mississippi, and Betty Hill McDonough, Georgia. His dearest brother-in-law, Reverend James Stewart (Delois), Brenda (Robert) Stewart, and dearest sister- in-law, Earline Stewart-Thomas, Leon and Sheila Blackmon; grandchildren: Detiona, Deirdre, Bianca, James, Jeremy, William, Quentin, Dequan, Robert, Lovie Hill, LaCorreia, a host of great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requested that your contribution be made to the Home Missionary Baptist Church Benevolent Fund in honor of William H. and Mollie B. Hill through Givelify or check.
