Rev. Terry L. Hamlett

Reverend Terry Levoid Hamlett was born on June 26, 1953 in Knoxville, TN to Waymon M. Hamlett, Sr. and Etolia Savannah (Hodges) Hamlett who preceded him in death. Rev. Hamlett received Christ at an early age at Greater St. James F.B.H. Church in Detroit, MI. As a teenager, he was a devout and diligent worker in the church. Devoted husband, adoring father, loving son, caring brother, nephew, cousin, loyal friend and man of God describe Reverend Hamlett. His strong faith in Christ, family encouragement, and his educational background were his sources of strength. Rev. Terry Levoid Hamlett graduated from Northern High School in Detroit, MI. He received his bachelor’s degree from Lane College, Jackson, TN and attended ITC Theological Seminary, Atlanta, GA. Rev. Hamlett loved to bake, grill, watch basketball and football and watch his children participate in their many activities. Not only did he give his time to his family, he extended himself to many others who needed his love and guidance. Through the years, Rev. Hamlett grew deeper in his relationship with the Lord and committed his life to his work in the church. He served as pastor at Chapel Grove CME, Berry Zion CME, Hosley Chapel CME, and Parker Chapel CME Churches. He loved to sing and his booming “Barry White” voice could often be heard throughout the church. Rev. Hamlett had a great love for his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. Inc. Rev. Terry Levoid Hamlett transitioned from this life Thursday, November 26, 2020 at Jackson General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Hamlett, brother-in-law Ira D. Morgan, Jr., and father-in-law Robert Merriweather, Sr. Rev. Hamlett leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 42 years, Clara Delean Merriweather Hamlett, his college sweetheart; daughters: Tiffani Clarice Varnado (Mario), Toya Dionne Hamlett, Terrica Bre-Anna Hamlett; brothers: Waymon M. Hamlett Jr. (Annie)of Tucson, AZ; Melvin R. Hamlett, Sr. (Versie) of Jackson. TN; Michael L. Hamlett, Sr. (Erma) of Atlanta, GA; sister: Bertha E. Morgan of Portage, MI; sisters-in-law: Joyce Hamlett of Detroit, MI, Patrick Hamlett of Jackson, TN, Anita Merriweather of Memphis, TN, Bea Hamlett of Levittown, PA; brothers-in-law: Randolph Merriweather of Marietta, GA, Robert Merriweather Jr., of Decatur, GA; mother-in-law: Rev. Ida Ruth Merriweather of Medon, TN; a special aunt Dr. Clara D. Hewitt of Jackson, TN and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
