Mrs. Ollie D. Robertson

Ollie D. Robertson, 96, of Kalamazoo, MI drifted away to be with the Lord with her loving family by her side, on May 23, 2012 after a battle with cancer. She was born in Alamo, TN to Lishonders Winston and Almeda Mason-Winston on June 20, 1920. Ollie was a very loving woman to all but she held a very special place in her heart for her only child James I. Winston, her husband Thomas Z. Robertson, a very special grandson James A. Winston and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her day was not complete without a verse from her favorite gospel tune "Jesus is On the Mainline." Ollie showed her love for God for several years through her membership at St. Paul Missionary Church in Racine, WI. While residing in Racine she worked for nearly 50 years as a nanny for prominent physicians and attorneys. After retiring from being a nanny Ollie pursued a career as a landlord investing in several properties in Milwaukee, WI, Racine, WI and in Kalamazoo MI. In addition to investing she loved to make dolls and quilts. She was such a good seamstress she could merely look at a garment and easily duplicate it to her own tastes. The outspoken Ollie was also an avid traveler who didn't mind packing a bag and taking off to wherever her heart desired. There are many great things that can be remembered about Ollie Robinson but what all of them will reflect is that she was full of life. Even in her darkest hours when many were ready to count her out she still found the spirit to dance and sing "Tell him what you want " Ollie is survived by her son James (Clemmie) Winston, six grandchildren James (Laura) Winston, Pamela (Windell) Washington, Javail Winston, Evelyn (John) Williams, Irene (Kenneth) Harrell, Jeanette Johnson, several nieces and nephews including (Bobby & Jerry Winston), Joyce (James) Pirtle, Doyle (Patricia) Winston, John (Mattie) Winston, Jody (Anna) Winston and Avalon Robinson. She is further survived by a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Elijah Winston and Almeda Mason-Winston, brothers and sisters Warren (Katherine) Winston, Ruby (Wambus) Anderson, Doyle (Gussie) Winston, Doc (Lossie) Winston, Bennie (W.O.) Taylor, Lonnie Winston, Florence (Thom) Payne, Rebecca (Jack) Robinson, Sally Mae (Sam) Jelks, Henry Winston, Martha (Frank) Bond and Edgar Winston and her husband Thomas Z. Robertson.
