Ms. Lucy Carter Floyd

On April 6, 1936, an earth angel was born to late Clifford (Speedy) Carter and Lizzie Burns Carter in Madison County. Raised alongside her beloved older sister, Ira Mae Armour, Sis. Lucy grew up surrounded by family and faith. On April 14, 2025, she peacefully transitioned to her eternal home with her Heavenly Father. Sis. Lucy made her profession of faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized by Elder Sydney B. Smith in Tigrett TN. For 89 faithful years, she was a dedicated member of Mt. Pleasant CME Church where she served with a humble heart and unwavering devotion. Her roles in the church were many: Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Children and Youth Ministry Leader, Stewardess, Missionary President, Usher, and member of both Steward and Trustee Boards. Educated in the Madison County School System Sis. Lucy attended Mt. Pleasant Elementary School and graduated from Merry High School in the Class of 1955. Committed to lifelong learning, she later enrolled in continuing education classes to better support her children in their academic pursuits. She was united in holy matrimony in 1957 to Willie Floyd, Sr. and from this union came four children. Sis. Lucy was a devoted and loving mother who nurtured her children with the heart of God. She poured love, wisdom and kindness into her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all who were blessed to be a part of her life. Gifted with many talents, she worked tirelessly to provide for her family. She was employed at the Milan Arsenal and after retiring continued to serve others as a housekeeper, caregiver and cashier. Her heart for service extended beyond her home as she cared for her aging parents until their passing and continued to offer compassionate care to others in need. Though soft-spoken she was a boldly faithful woman. She powerfully displayed love, grace, and unwavering faith in God. Her faith never wavered, and her legacy of kindness and devotion remains a guiding light for those she leaves behind. Her favorite Scripture was Psalm 37:25, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” Her life was a living testimony to this truth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Lizzie Carter, her sister, Ira Mae Armour, her niece Fannie Shaw, nephews, Charles Lee Moore, Guy Shaw; son-in-law Rev. Billy Joe Liggons and great niece Brittany Curry. She leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Lylia Bethea (Charles), Elizabeth Ann Floyd-Liggons, Oakfield TN; two sons, Willie Floyd, Jr., West Memphis AR, Paul Floyd (Veronica) Selmer TN; Grandchildren: Koran Floyd and Felicia Harris whom she raised with a mother’s heart, Yeri (Jasmine) Bethea, Brilma (Brian) Askew, Jade (Seville) Brooks, Adrian Davis, Corbyn Davis, Anthony Floyd, Brittany Floyd, Josh Barnes, Billy Joe Liggons, Jr and LaToya Bolden, Natasha Chatman, Nikia (Stanley) Blalark; Great-Grand Children: Curare Floyd, Kody Floyd, Koriendy Floyd, Ka’Daesha Triplett, Traivin Lyles, Se’Riyah Bethea, Bryson Jones, Kensli Bethea, Keylan Bethea, Jacob Taylor, Kayla Hoyle, Elijah Brooks, Ariel Davis, Norah Ellison, Kassidy Ellison, Chance Davis, Kennedy Patrick, Honesty Beard, Adarius Liggons, Caleb Stokely, Mariah Wood, Demarcus Anderson. In addition, she leaves a nephew, David Lee Moore (Jessie) great nieces, Youlandia Curry, Irish Curry and Shealinda Moore, great nephews David Lee Moore, Jr., Jerry Moore, Dwayne Moore, special friends Letha Bass, Dr. Clementine Spencer, Jimmie Martin and numerous cousins and friends who will miss her dearly. Sis. Lucy walked in righteousness, trusted in God’s provision, and left a legacy of faith and unwavering devotion. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine through all who were touched by her life.
