Mr. Johnny Matt Wills

On August 7, 2013, one that we loved and knew stepped across the threshold that we called death, but it was only a step into another room, and not a stepping out of the fellowship of life. A life that is founded on the principles of goodness, love, wisdom, and divine dedication has lasting foundation and cannot die. Thus, the life of Brother Johnny M. Wills is endless. Johnny the eighth child of Matt and Eddie May Wiley Wills, was born February 6, 1931, in Brownsville, TN. At an early age he accepted Christ, his Redeemer, and made Him the "Boss of his life", and united with the First Holiness Church. He made transition three times and relocated in Alamo, TN; Toledo, OH and Jackson, TN. He joined Midgett Chapel (Lighthouse) CME and Mt. Pleasant CME Churches. He was married to Peggy Raines for 55 years. His family of two later increased to three with a son, John Fitzgerald. He received his undergraduate training from the public schools in Haywood County, and his higher training from Lane College, Jackson, TN with a BA Degree. Johnny was a champion of caring and serving the people around him. He cared for many, Johnny was a champion of honesty. He believed in truth, fairness, and justice. Johnny was a champion of guidance and kindness. His relationship with God was his success. Johnny was a champion of humility. There was never a persoll beneath him. He looked for the good in God beautiful creation. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years, and received an honorable discharge. His diverse interests were appealing. He was a teacher, principal, lawn service entrepreneur, and fork lift operator. His survivors are a son: John Fitzgerald (Andrea) Wills of Austin, TX; a nephew reared as a son, John H. (Mattie) Winston of Brownsville, TN; grandchildren: Laryssa Wills and Arlene Medrano of Austin, TX, Calvin Coman of Jackson, TN and Andre Lamar of Detroit, MI; a devoted nephew, John Wills of Brownsville, TN. Two brothers: James Wills of Cincinnati, OH, Charles R. Wills (Lola) of Brownsville; a sister, Sophronia Wills Hill of Denmark, TN; a brother-in-law, Otis Reams of Alamo, TN; a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends, and two special companions; Fido and Coco.
